For more than 40 years the Arrowsmith programs have used neuroplasticity to change the brains – and lives – of people of all ages. This approach sees individuals overcome a variety of learning difficulties including but not limited to dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, memory retention, auditory processing and attention deficit disorders.
After my first child was born I returned to teaching via a part time role at a school that offered the Arrowsmith program. I got certified and fell in love with not only the approach but the outcomes. I have never seen kids work harder or smile bigger, when the disability that had held them back was no longer standing in the way. Brains were being changed and I got to participate in the process.
I went into teaching to help kids, who like me, found school hard. I particularly loved working with the kids other teachers found to be difficult, why. Because I was that kid, and I understood from personal experience the frustration of being misdiagnosed and subsequently misunderstood. There is great reward in seeing kids respond to a teaching approach that is relational, firm, kind and consistent, one that gets results when other approaches have failed.
Early on I knew my little was a lot like me, and I didn’t want her schooling to be anything like mine, and so we began building what is now Enrichment Studio.
We initially offered tutoring and single days out from mainstream school, or supplementary to homeschooling but as I got chatting to mums, who shared the challenges their neurodiverse, dyslexic, stressed out kiddies were experiencing in the classroom, I knew immediately that we had to bring the Arrowsmith programs into the studio and make it available not just for our full timers, but for all those who needed it.
Arrowsmith sessions are for children ages seven and up. It addresses the specific cognitive weakness and strengthens the brain. This program has seen fantastic results for students at college, and can be the much needed support for academic achievement, self esteem and learning difficulties. The Arrowsmith program requires students to do 2-3 sessions of work from home or during a period at school, if agreed with the teacher, as well as a minimum of 1 in person session a week.
